CCF Construction Excellence Award for St Kilda Road Project

On the 20th of August this year Interflow and South East Water were jointly presented with the Victorian Civil Contractors “Earth” Award, Category 2 (Projects $1M to $5M) for the “St Kilda Road Main Renewal Project.” This Award was won against entrants from all fields of civil engineering and construction.

The Award acknowledged an outstanding example of Interflow and a major Water Authority working together to deliver an ambitious project under demanding conditions.

This project was to replace a 1.4 kilometre section of a 135-year-old water main running under one of Melbourne’s major streets. St Kilda Rd carries high traffic volumes, including trams and is lined by multi story office and residential buildings.

For South East Water it was a critical project not only because of the need to make sure efficient water supplies could be provided for the next 100 years, but also that the works could be carried out with minimal disruption.

Interflow’s personnel were able to develop innovative work methods to enable the project to be completed safely and efficiently. Work was carried out at night, with the road restored to full traffic carrying capacity each morning. Uninterrupted water supplies were provided to all users along the route project.

Community relations, so vital on a project such as this, were jointly managed by our two Organisations.

The success of the project was another example of how Interflow works with its Clients to jointly deliver difficult, but very important projects.
