EXPANDA PIPE CASE STUDIES
Rib Loc Expanda Pipe Plugs The Hole.

A large hole in a sewer under a creek, with water gushing in, required urgent remedial action from a Victorian Water Authority.

The Problem:
A 300mm diameter concrete sewer pipeline in a major town in rural Victoria passed under a creek. A CCTV survey revealed a large hole had developed at the crown of one of the pipes, with water infiltrating at high velocity.

The flow capacity of the pipeline had also been severely reduced by massive root intrusion into the hole. Repair was urgently required. Possibilities were limited as the main could only be shut down for a maximum of 4 hours.

The Solution:
As Rib Loc Expanda Pipe does not soften during installation, it has the capacity to bridge holes in a pipeline. Heating is not required, so the liner can be installed with flow in the line, whether from the sewer system or from infiltration.

Before
Before: Heavy route infestation through
a hole in the pipe crown.
After
After: A circular structural lining was installed
within the available 4 hour shutdown period.d.

The Project:
he first stage of the project involved cutting the roots out of the line. The project then proceeded as a normal Expanda Pipe installation despite the high flow rate and hydrostatic pressure of the infiltrating water.

No bypass pumping or dewatering was required.

Interflow were able to install and expand the liner to contact the bore of the deteriorated pipe well within the available 4 hour time frame .

This project demonstrated the unique capabilities of the Rib Loc Expanda Pipe system under difficult conditions. A potential capacity problem was avoided both upstream, because of the root infestation, and downstream, because of infiltration through the large hole under the creek.
